Vice President, Capital Youth Outreach Club (CYOC)
From June 29 to July 2, 2026, I had the privilege of serving as a volunteer at the American Bootes Astronomical Society (ABAS) Summer Astronomy Camp, held at Herbert Hoover Middle School in Potomac, Maryland. Representing Capital Youth Outreach Club (CYOC) as its Vice President, I was honored to support this inspiring STEM education program while helping young campers discover the excitement of astronomy and space exploration.

Following the success of last year’s Engineering Workshop, my friends Evan Chen, Ruichen Feng, and I returned this summer to organize and teach the CYOC 2026 Summer Engineering Workshop. This is the second year Evan and Ruichen have organized and led this camp, and working closely with them throughout the program has allowed me to learn a great deal from their experience and leadership. Unlike last year, when I only assisted as a guest instructor for one day, this year I served as a full-time instructor, actively involved throughout the entire program in teaching, mentoring students, and troubleshooting engineering challenges alongside Evan and Ruichen.

This summer marked my second year serving as an instructor for the CYOC Summer Engineering Workshop. I had the privilege of working alongside the workshop’s founder, Evan Chen, and instructor George Wang. As co-founder of the workshop, my goal, together with our teaching team, was to provide meaningful STEM enrichment opportunities for elementary to middle school students while inspiring them to explore future pathways in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This year, we welcomed 16 middle school and rising middle school students, most of whom had little or no prior experience with engineering, computer-aided design (CAD), electronics, or programming.

This was an incredibly insightful and inspiring Zoom session! Hearing firsthand experiences from the five amazing senior speakers gave me a much clearer perspective on the college application journey.

The Greater Washington Area Zhejiang University Alumni Association (ZUAADC) and the Capital Youth Outreach Club (CYOC) successfully hosted the eighth Qiushi Education Forum, bringing together students, parents, and educators for an engaging meeting about education, college preparation, and university admissions. The forum featured five outstanding student speakers who shared their journeys to highly selective universities: Luke Li, who is going to Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Albert Lu, who is going to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Sophie Huang, who is going to Duke University, Ben Luo, who is going to Emory University Goizueta Business School, and Skylar Xue, who is going to Yale University. These students helped discuss the important steps their younger peers should take to prepare for university, and reflected on their past experiences to help guide future generations towards success.
