Team Galaxy Academy of Innovation: Summer Course and Workshop
Registration is now open for the Team Galaxy Academy of Innovation, an elite STEM innovation program for rising 9th–12th-grade students who want to solve real-world problems, develop original project ideas, and prepare for future competitions, research, and leadership opportunities.
Inspired by Team Galaxy’s historic achievement as Maryland’s first team to earn a podium finish at NASA’s Dream With Us Design Challenge, the Academy teaches students a practical innovation process used by engineers, entrepreneurs, and researchers. Students will learn how to identify meaningful problems, develop creative solutions, communicate their ideas, and present their work professionally.
The program includes a virtual pre-work course followed by a hands-on workshop. During the Academy, students will learn from award-winning student innovators, a NASA scientist, an MIT Regeneron Science Talent Search 1st place awardee, and other experienced mentors. No prior competition or research experience is required; we are looking for curious, driven students who are eager to make an impact.
Program Details
PreWork – Innovation 101: July 20–August 1
- Asynchronous Course
- Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4–5 pm
Workshop Dates: August 2–9
- Time: 10am- 2pm | Venue : University of Maryland College Park
- Format: Hybrid – August 2 and 9 in person; August 3–8 virtual
Program Cost:
- $100: The fee helps cover meals for the first and last in-person days, room rental, workshop materials, and other program logistics.
Eligibility to apply: Rising 9th–12th-grade students
After registration, applicants will complete an interview to assess their skills, interests, and drive for innovation. Admission is selective. Successful placement will be notified through email. Accepted students will pay through PayPal before beginning the pre-work.

Short Summary:
The Summer Innovation Course & Workshop is a selective TG Academy of Innovation program for rising 9th–12th-grade students who want to turn real-world problems into competition-ready STEM project ideas. Inspired by Team Galaxy’s national success in NASA’s Dream With Us Design Challenge, the program teaches students a practical innovation process from problem identification to solution design and professional presentation. Students will learn through virtual pre-work, a hybrid hands-on workshop, and mentorship from award-winning student innovators, a NASA scientist, an MIT Regeneron Science Talent Search winner, and other experienced mentors. Interested students may apply through the program form and complete a brief interview as part of the admissions process.
