On September 11, the CYOC Central & Northern Maryland Chapter officially held the first opening meeting. Youth members and parents from Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, and Baltimore City joined the meeting. Participants learned more about CYOC, shared experiences and thoughts about being involved in CYOC activities.
In the beginning, CYOC Advisor Mr. Xie introduced CYOC’s mission, youth-led leadership model, membership opportunities, and community activities and impact. Youth leaders from the new Central & Northern Maryland Chapter introduced themselves. David Yuan, Logan Zhang, Bowen Guo, Vanessa Feng, Michelle Luo, Sophie Mao, Jason Fan, Tristan Walker, Eva Zhang, Sharill Mao, and Maxwell Luo each shared their experiences and enthusiasm for getting more involved in CYOC community activities.
Parent representatives Guopin Zhao, Shu Zhang, and Jiahang Li also shared their appreciation for CYOC and its efforts to provide young people with opportunities to learn, grow, and develop leadership skills. CYOC advisors Professor Tao Chen and Dr. Ping Lu recognized the youth members for their enthusiastic, appreciated parents for support, and shared hopes for the chapter’s further development.
During the Q&A session, the youth-led CYOC Gambling Prevention Grant Committee provided an update on the grant application, including planned activities, the proposed budget, and next steps. The discussion helped everyone better understand upcoming activities and gave a clearer picture of the Chapter’s future plans.
The successful opening meeting marks a new milestone for the CYOC Central & Northern Maryland Chapter. We are calling for more young people from Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, and Baltimore City areas will join CYOC, take part in community service, meet new friends, build leadership skills through real-world experiences, and work together to make a positive difference in our community.
