On August 30, 2025, the Capital Youth Outreach Club (CYOC) attended the annual Washington Chinese Culture Festival in Washington D.C. The festival took place on Pennsylvania Avenue between 3rd and 4th Street, and was home to many Chinese cultural events. When walking through the grounds, you could spot all kinds of activities in full swing – whether that’s live speeches and performances, people admiring art, talking with their friends, or just enjoying some good food.
As a part of the USCAC/ACECEA group, our goal was to introduce Chinese culture to visitors to help them better understand the items’ cultural aspects and significance. To prepare for this, I designed posters of many cultural items, and also created a handbook for our team to study, allowing them to confidently share insights into Chinese culture, avidly engaging with visitors of all ages, fully immersing themselves in our heritage.
To further boost engagement, we also prepared face painting and temporary tattoo activities, where volunteers would apply cultural temporary tattoos and use paints to paint designs on visitors’ hands and faces. Visitors of all ages were drawn in by the fun designs, quick application, and vibrant colors. Many visitors helped support CYOC, and we also received many donations.
Overall, the event was a fantastic success. We celebrated our culture and heritage, and also introduced many people to our culture, creating bonds and fostering cultural exchange.
