As a person living in a society, communities will always mean a lot to us. Whether its the people who live around you, the people who have the same interests as you, or the people who share the same race as you, they will always be a big part of your life. There’s a reason why the Chinese Cultural Festival in D.C. exists and that’s to bring our talented chinese community together. In a large group, we can further strengthen our own relationships, and we can even make brand new ones! When us CYOC volunteers work, we take the word “community” seriously and we try to help everyone we can so that our community members may have the time of their lives.

Due to the fact that a whole chunk of the chinese community is coming together, that means that this event is going to be really big. A whole street had to be sectioned off and on that street, every corner you stepped into is bustling with excitement. There were performances going on such as dancing and singing, many booths had entertaining interactive activities like games and practicing calligraphy, there was delicious beverages and food like rice cakes, and much more!
During the event, CYOC volunteers were hard at work, giving kids colorful temporary tattoos, selling absolutely delicious desserts, distributing stickers to make attendees at home, and even assisting the vendors at Peter Chang! While they did all of that, CYOC reporters thoroughly documented all the proceedings so that more people can know about the event and that we can always remember the hard work we put in towards helping our community. Due to the sheer amount of jobs that CYOC has, you can see our shirts everywhere you look in the festival because we’re always looking for ways to help. We also participated in the parade, where we really got to show people what our program is about.
When the event drew to a close, most of us enjoyed it so much that we won’t mind staying here for an extra two days. Helping people really does make a difference, and helping our community would make us feel even better!
