On May 4, 2025, Montgomery County hosted a vibrant celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month at Seneca Valley High School. The event brought together members of the region’s AAPI communities to hold a cultural exchange and deepen mutual understanding. It demonstrated the strength and vitality of the county’s diverse cultural landscape.

The Capital Youth Outreach Club (CYOC) actively participated in the event, with its booth attracting a steady stream of people. The booth’s exhibits showcased a fascinating array of traditional Chinese cultural items, including Peking Opera masks, tea sets, a calligraphy set, and panda-themed accessories. These exhibits provided visitors with an opportunity to experience Chinese culture up close. The booth also set up fun games for children to participate in, adding a lively atmosphere to the scene. Volunteers also actively communicated with visitors and shared the organization’s purpose – empowering youth, giving back to the community, and promoting cross-cultural understanding.
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Asian American and Pacific Affairs Committee Chairwoman Yang Yu visited the CYOC booth. They communicated with young volunteers and took photos, which demonstrated their support for youth participation in cultural and community activities.
CYOC is honored to contribute to making Montgomery County a more connected and inclusive community – a community that values the voices of young people and celebrates their rich cultural diversity.
