Since 1993, the Black Hill Barbecue held in Black Hill Regional Park, Maryland has been a staple of the Chinese Alumni Associates of Greater Washington (CAAGW) for 31 years. It’s an important event where people in the Greater DMV area can come together to enjoy food, marvel at live performances, and bond with others. Every year, more than 70 alumni of the CAAGW come to this event, and this year is no different. This year on May 12, the park was as lively as could be with many events.
The Capital Youth Outreach Club (CYOC) is a student-led volunteer organization with more than five hundred registered members from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Established in 2018, CYOC has successfully organized multiple fundraising efforts to support hospitals in the US and China during the COVID-19 pandemic, provided aid to Ukrainian musicians affected by the war, and assisted refugees as they settled into the community. As one of the most active youth volunteer organizations in the area, CYOC has had the honor of participating in Washington, DC’s Independence Day parade for four consecutive years (2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024).
CYOC offers a diverse range of volunteer activities, focusing on education, sports, arts, and various community service projects. We warmly welcome young individuals from all backgrounds to join our mission of serving the community, emphasizing the strength that comes from collective efforts. Together, through collaboration and shared goals, CYOC aims to make a positive impact and foster a more inclusive and compassionate society.
It’s the second year since I joined Capital Youth Outreach Club( CYOC), which I am very proud of because we are a group of young people that serve our community. This time, as a CYOC memeber, I am helping with the 2024 10K race happening in our region. It was a chilly morning at Pike and Rose as me and my dad drove into the parking garage. As I was walking with him, I saw a big sign that said “Pikes Peek 10k” (It was spelled “peek”, I don’t know if that was intentional or not), which was the name of the race I volunteered for today.
The Capital Youth Outreach Club (CYOC) was established in the DMV area in 2018. It encourages youth of all ages to make a change in their communities though actively volunteering in many community events, reflecting the volunteers’ social responsibility and influence. For many years, they have organized many activities while giving back to the community. In January of 2024, CYOC formed a partnership with So What Else.
