CYOC Helping Hands Haul

By Jaylynne Yang

On the morning of July 29th, CYOC (Capital Youth Outreach Club) held a donation drive at Wootton High School for families in need. Many families pitched in and brought bags of clothes, toys, shoes, etc. to be donated to the needy. I, along with the help of other students, helped unload and carry items out of people’s cars. This experience made me feel good as I knew that my work would help the people in my community who are in need. It was great to know that our cooperative hard work would be for a good cause. Additionally, we were able to expand our mission with the help of the organization “So What Else?”. By collaborating with them, it was much easier for us to successfully transport all the items to their destination.

We set up a booth at the Wootton parking lot with a huge banner with our club name and a place to drop off the items. Cars driving by can choose to stop by and donate unneeded items, and multiple families who support the club also dropped by. After helping people unload bags of items from their cars and drop them on the parking lot floor, we waited for the truck that was driven by Director of Operations Megan Joe from “So What Else?” to help transport all the donations to the destination. I am so grateful to the parents and Megan for helping to organize and provide for this event. Overall, I am so glad I was able to participate in this donation as not only was I able to clear out my home, but I was also able to give back to my community.
